Using 400MHz X-Scale chips, Toshiba and Fujitsu may provide twice the speed with half the power. The $500 Genio e550G Pocket PC joins the e570 which uses an older 206MHz Intel StrongARM. It will be available in May. Toshiba’s 400Mhz Genio e550G comes with 64MB RAM, 32MB Flash ROM, a Secure Digital slot, a Compact Flash slot and a 4″ screen. The $600 Fujitsu Pocket LOOX features an integrated Bluetooth and an optional GPRS module.
The new PocketPCs may run up to 12 Hours; 30+ hours of standby with 802.11b CompactFlash cards costing $80-$130. InfoSync has the latest news you can wear.
Pocket PC Flash can make it happen. The USGS is coordinating a pilot National Map. The Map Bureau’s Flash Maps of Lewis and Clark are WAY cool.
Samantha would LOVE to mount an X-scale PDA on a Segway scooter for autonomous, self-guided, GPS-driven, narrated tours. They’d be great around the Oregon Zoo - or anywhere in Florida. For an extra $5, run voice-over-IP (VoIP) with GPRS or 802.11b to connect wandering families.
