Unmanned aerial vehicle systems will be demonstrated at a July 14 UAV Airshow in Washington DC. The unique event will include static displays and flight demos. The DoD recently unveiled a roadmap for UAVs covering the next 25 years. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles might provide 24/7 surveillence over U.S. cities in the event of another terrorist attack.

A flying hot spot was used in Hawaii. A solar-powered UAV Pathfinder served as an airborne platform. They used a hand-held Cisco 340 in bridging mode (right) with a 1 watt amp to control cameras at 20,000 feet. Telesphere’s prototype Airship, will deliver 802.11b to laptops on the ground located within a 10-mile radius.
Vivato has a 4 mile range, but the unlicensed 802.16a standard can provide 10-30 mile range at 10 Mbps or more. That’s good enough for HDTV.
A 360 video camera might use an Ultra High Definition Chips with 8.3 million-pixel (3840 x 2160) sensors. Images could be stored in a Quvis HDTV box or dozens of different (standard definition) targets might be tracked simultaneously.
