Keegan, reports that his Toshiba e740, loaded up PocketWarrior works great for warbiking:
“This morning before work, I stuck my Toshiba e740, loaded with PocketWarrior in my backpack, and 20 minutes later, I had found 29 APs, 6 of which were WEP’d. All but the first minute of searching took place on larger/main roads.
The most prevalent types were, of course, the Linksys APs in their default configuration, but there are also a large percentage of properly configured open nodes.
Anyway, I just wanted to let people know that there’s no reason you need a complicated, battery-powered Soekris rig or a bulky, fragile laptop to warbike in style, and that PocketWarrior is very cool!
It is a GPL’d (open source) network stumbler tool for PocketPC-based handhelds, and it works with the e740 built-in Prism card, unlike the current Ministumbler release. If you want realtime detection, just plug in a pair of headphones and turn on the audio notification.
PDA Bargains lists Toshiba 740s for as low as $250.
