NETGEAR is integrating the Intel IXP422 network processor into a new line of enterprise class access points. Intel’s chip offers IPsec-enabled Network Processor Engine (NPE) to accelerate cryptography and authentication algorithms and is said to enable higher performance, enhanced security with integrated cryptography.
“Being ready for the upcoming 802.11i standard through the headroom and performance of the IXP422 network processor serves [enterprise] customers well in ensuring software upgrades can not only meet the standard, but bring an assurance of excellent performance.”
NETGEAR’s ProSafe wireless access points will feature client authentication, enforcement of access authorization policies, remote secure management, and various gateway control functions. Security will be enhanced with the incorporation of Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) and AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) protocol that is part of the upcoming 802.11i standard. .
NETGEAR’s new ProSafe wireless access points will be available in Q4 2003 through value-added resellers, direct mail and e-commerce retailers.
