Tropos Networks, the leading MetroMesh company, is doing a deal with NetMotion, a leading “roaming” software vendor, to promote roaming between Tropos’ metro-sized Wi-Fi networks and wide area networks (like cellular providers).

The two companies are working together on the Tropos deployment in Milpitas, California, to enable public safety workers to interconnect using NetMotion’s Mobility XE software.

Milpitas police officers and firefighters will use it for secure and seamless roaming access to critical applications such as the CalPhoto Database, DMV records and photos, hazardous materials databases, video surveillance and mobile dispatch applications.

The two companies will do joint sales and promotion of each other’s products for first responder and government deployments.

The new Tropos MetroMesh OS is said to bring real-world benefits with the patented metro-scale optimized Predictive Wireless Routing Protocol (PWRP). It’s illustrated in their whitepaper, MetroMesh Proven: Metro-Scale Wi-Fi in Chaska, MN, (available at tropos.com/pdf/chaska_performance.pdf).
