MCI has received an increased offer from Verizon Communications, today, which MCI called superior to one from QWest Communications. Verizon’s revised offer provides at least $26 per MCI share, up from $23.10 previously, compared to a $9.9 billion bid by QWest worth essentially $30 a share.
Qwest’s offer of $9.8 billion, or $30 a sharefor MCI, is about 30 percent more than Verizon’s recent bid of $7.6 billion, or $23.10 a share.
MCI said many of its “most important business customers” indicated they prefer a transaction between MCI and Verizon, the largest U.S. local-telephone company.
