ZyXEL Communications, announced today that its Prestige 2000W v2 VoIP Wi-Fi Phone won the 2005 SUPERQuest Award for Most Promising New Technologies of 2005 at SUPERCOMM, the world’s premier annual exhibition and conference for communications service providers and private network managers which opens next week, June 6-9, in Chicago.

ZyXEL’s mobile P2000W, with a cell phone look and feel, can make or receive phone calls within a WiFi environment. With wireless Internet access common in the workplace and wireless hot spots rapidly growing, the P2000W is a cost-effective alternative for businesses to communicate worldwide and to connect with telecommuters and employees on the road.

The Prestige 2000W VoIP Wi-Fi phone was noted for its secure auto provisioning feature that enables VoIP service providers or system integrators to easily install and manage services so end users use the phone without any configuration necessary. Additionally, VoIP-based phone services can be easily integrated with e-mail clients thus providing users with a unified view of all their messaging services. ZyXEL’s P2000W adds another dimension of mobility to the existing benefits of VoIP services.

Cellular-like WiFi phones are getting hot. Skype says they’ll offer a WiFi phone for their (free and pay) VoIP service, a $39 WiFi phone was recently announced, while Broadvoice, Vonage and others have also annouced wireless phones in the $99-$250 range.

Expect a ton of telecommunications announcements this week as vendors jockey for the opening of SUPERCOMM 2005.
