Mobile mapping specialist, m-spatial is building on the unique MapWay Walking Directions service launched in July. MapWay now allows mobile phone users to view uniquely detailed maps showing the area surrounding a chosen location.

Cambridge, UK based In contrast to the Walking Directions service which provides maps specifically designed to illustrate a route, the new ‘View Map’ service provides ‘location maps’ which are designed to illustrate the location of a place of interest. A sequence of maps of various scales is provided for each location, the levels of zoom being dynamically selected to provide the most useful information. Unlike many mobile mapping solutions, the service shows precisely where a specified location is on a street (and the shape of the building it is in), and also highlights prominent landmarks in the .

“The MapWay View Map service compliments the existing Walking Directions service which is already live on Vodafone and O2 in the UK. The new service provides an answer to the question ‘where is it?’

Both the graphical directions provided by the MapWay Walking Directions service and the location maps that are provided by the View Map service can be quickly and easily integrated with third party mobile applications.
