Technical publishing conglomerate CMP Media has acquired Light Reading and their four market-leading publications; (Light Reading, Unstrung, Byte & Switch, and Next-Gen Data Center Forum); along with their web- based seminars (webinars); Heavy Reading, their paid research and advisory services and other assets.
Unstrung is known for good old fashioned reporting along with entertaining commentary. People like Dan Jones, Gabriel Brown and Justin Springham bring color to the largely grey world of tech reportage.
In a recent survey, 21 out of the top 25 technology analysts on Wall Street named Light Reading as their Number One source of information.
DailyWireless would have to concur. Unstrung is the first place we look for breaking news. Their style blends seasoned perspective and irreverence. Om Malik, at Business 2.0, also knows how to work a phone.
CMP Media runs Electronics Engineering Times, an industry rock, as well as dozens of other publications, seminars and ventures.
Alan Meckler, Jupitermedia CEO, has the inside poop - or is that sour grapes.
Unstrung never “sold out” their editorial voice, remaining quirky and entertaining while delivering fresh stories and insight, not re-writes of press releases and vacuous opinions appropo of nothing.
Let’s hope the character and craft of Light Reading/Unstrung continues under CMP.
