Intel today announced two initiatives aimed at speeding deployment of certified, interoperable Wireless USB devices sometime next year.
The company said it is developing a Wireless Host Controller Interface (WHCI) specification to provide a standardized method for hardware-software communication. The spec will allow a PCI-based host controller to communicate with a host’s software driver stack provided all components are based on the certified Wireless USB specification.
Intel also announced the opening of the first Interoperability Lab focusing on the Certified Wireless USB and WiMedia Alliance UWB MAC and PHY specifications.
