Portland’s News 4 Neighbors says Unwire Portland is seeking 1-3 additional Citizen Representatives to serve on the Evaluation Committee:

The City of Portland will release a Request for Proposal (RFP) in late August of this year in an attempt to recruit a private provider to deploy and operate a citywide wireless network in cooperation with the project s three public partners; the City of Portland, Portland Public Schools and TriMet.

The Unwire Portland Steering Committee is seeking participation of interested individuals who would like to serve on the RFP evaluation committee. The committee will evaluate proposals received through a competitive public solicitation process and make selection recommendations to the City of Portland Bureau of Technology Services.

Potential citizen representatives should have: A history of community involvement; An interest in and knowledge of technology and technology issues; The time and commitment required to participate over the next few months.

In addition:

  • Knowledge of or about deployment of wireless networks is desirable.

Questions will remain until a document is available to view. The draft RFP is essentially done, according to Rashid Ahmed, and is going through the legal and procedural steps before publication.
