Glenn Fleishman compares three outsourced 802.1X/WPA Enterprise providers in a Mobile Pipeline article. He compares WiTopia s SecureMyFi, BoxedWireless.com and WSC Guard.
Fleishman, who knows his security protocols, says; “WSC Guard is incredibly simple to use and administer, but it s a Windows-only offering. SecureMyWiFi and BoxedWireless offer flexibility by providing full 802.1X support for PEAP (both), EAP-TTLS (SecureMyWiFi) and EAP-TLS with certificate management (BoxedWireless)”.
- WiTopia s SecureMyFi: One year of free service for one AP and up to five users; additional APs are $10/year each; additional blocks of five users are $5/year per block per year.
- BoxedWireless: 10 users: $24 per month or $268 per year; additional users typically range between $2 and $3 per user per month.
- WSC Guard: $4.45 per user per month for up to five users; $3.99 per month for five or more users.
For mixed networks of Windows and other platforms, WiTopia s SecureMyWiFi and BoxedWireless are both interesting and competitive offerings. Those who need the highest-level of individual security and want to avoid passwords should choose EAP-TLS from BoxedWireless.
Of course, Google WiFi may offer the best deal of all for secure access — free!
