Joint Commecial/Muni Proposed for 700Mhz

A co-founder of Nextel, through Cyren Call Communications, urged the FCC to establish a Public Safety Broadband Trust to hold the license for a key segment of spectrum in the 700 MHz band in a filing to the FCC.

The House Energy and Commerce Committee voted 34-22 on Wednesday to defeat a Democrat-sponsored Net Neutrality amendment that would have prevented AT&T, Verizon and Comcast from creating “tiered” internet access. Members of the committee rejected Edward Markey’s measure that would have barred telcos from creating higher access fees from competing internet content companies.

Annapolis Free WiFi

Annapolis Maryland is getting free WiFi with ad-supported hotspots, reports the Baltimore Sun.
Annapolis Wireless, a local company, is holding an official wire cutting on April 29, 2:30 pm in a public ceremony. Maryland Governor Robert Ehrlich, Mayor Ellen Moyer and county officials will be on hand to celebrate.

TeleCIS Mobilizes Fixed WiMAX

TeleCIS today announced its TCW 1620 WiMAX chip, said to enable both low-cost, indoor “self-installed” customer premises equipment (CPE) for fixed WiMAX services as well as “portable” services.

Broadcom Ships 802.11n Chips

Broadcom has named some of the companies to whom it has shipped production quantities of its draft-802.11n standard compliant Wi-Fi chips. They include Buffalo Technologies, Netgear, and US Robotics.
Broadcom says it has shipped Intensi-fi chipsets to other leading manufacturers of 802.11n equipment that it would not identify, says EE Times.
