Digital Cyclone has announced that its My-Cast mobile weather service now includes the ability to track tropical storms and hurricanes.

The Hurricane Tracker allows users to see the projected path of a hurricane in real-time with satellite cloud loops focused directly on the eye of the storm. Also included are StormWatch plots and warnings for affected counties, advanced lightning tracking and alerts from the National Weather Service virtually as they are issued.

My-Cast’s weather presentations on websites are free but require content providers to pay Digital Cyclone a license fee. Digital Cyclone also generates revenue from advertising on those sites. My-Cast is a subscription service available on all major carriers with data plans.

Other features of My-Cast 5.0 include NEXRAD radar loops that show the speed and direction of approaching weather, visible and infrared satellite imagery, plus hourly and extended forecasts for up to 7 days. Users can zoom into and pan across high-resolution weather maps centered on any location in the continental U.S.

My-Cast receives weather data directly from the National Weather Service, including radar and satellite imagery, lightning strike data, and hourly airport observations which are funneled into My-Cast’s database.

With GPS-enabled phones, location-aware My-Cast delivers information for the precise current location of the user automatically. Dynamic graphics change with the weather, displaying current conditions at-a-glance, including temperature, precipitation, cloud cover and more.

The National Weather Service has lots of free services. Anyone can subscribe to NOAA’s Huricane Center RSS feed for free, for example.
