Muni Wireless Censorship

WiMAX Trial Results

Pipex announced results for the latest phase of its WiMAX trial in Stratford-upon-Avon. Speeds achieved were: 2Mbps down/2Mbps up indoors at 1.2km (.75 miles); with 10Mbps down/9Mbps up using external antennas at that distance; and 6Mbps down/4 Mbps up, using external antennas at 6km (3.7 miles).

Microsoft began sending invitations for testers Tuesday to sign up for a beta of a Wi-Fi connection manager, reports Beta News. Katie Fehrenbacher and PDA Street say T-Mobile may launch a service in Seattle as soon as September 12 using Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA), which would allow cellular/WiFi roaming for voice calls with automatic handoff.

Deborah Platt Majoras, the FTC’s Republican chairman, said extensive Net neutrality legislation currently pending in the U.S. Senate is unnecessary, reports C/Net.
