RoamEO enables dog owners to locate their pets via GPS. Using a GPS-enabled collar, RoamEO can pinpoint your dog’s location and show you where he’s heading. The handheld unit can track up to three dogs simultaneously.
The collar transmits GPS coordinates back to the handheld unit, where the information is translated and then displayed on the color LCD screen. Apparently, no cellular service is required. Line of sight range is up to one mile, but buildings, trees and hills will reduce range.
RoamEO claims its GPS dog collar will:
- Locate your pet within one mile in all directions and displays this information on a color LCD screen.
- Displays your pet’s exact location, current movements, and velocity.
- Create your own customized GPS Fence that will result in an audible alert if your pet leaves the defined perimeter.
- Can track up to three pets simultaneously.
- Easy to use: no installation required; no third party services necessary.
RoamEO uses GPS coordinates. You walk the perimeter and can store a desired “fence” into memory. If your pet exits this perimeter, an audible alarm will sound.
Gizmodo says this isn’t the first dog GPS. Others include the Secom GPS from Japan, the Global Pet Finder ($349), and the GPS Pro. The RoamEO costs $459, plus another $149 for each additional collar. Ships next month.
