Imaging and connectivity solutions company FotoNation and Trimble will provide wireless PTP-IP technology for Trimble’s Mapping & Geographic Information System (GIS) handheld product line. Their new TrimPix technology, using Wi-Fi capable Nikon cameras, automatically links photographs to GIS location data.

As each photo is taken, the Nikon camera automatically transfers the digital image wirelessly to Trimble’s handheld GPS receiver or field computer. Once the photo has been transferred, it is linked to GIS data for use with mapping and searching applications. Using the built-in wireless LAN on a GeoExplorer 2005 series, Recon or Ranger handheld, you can connect to and receive images from selected high resolution WiFi-capable Nikon digital cameras.

Current Nikon cameras supporting the Wi-Fi capability include the affordable Coolpix models P1, P2, P3, S6 and S7c.
