D-link’s circular-shaped USB adapter (left), looks like a hockey puck, but the $99.99 DWA-142 RangeBooster N does have a MIMO kicker. D-Link says you can expect 12x speed and 4x farther range than an average 802.11g network.

Belkin’s N1 line, Buffalo’s Nfiniti (Draft-N), D-Link’s Xtreme N, Linksys Wireless-N and Netgear RangeMax all toot their own ‘draft n’ routers.

But don’t try to mix and match. Early adopters are advised to match the brand of the client with the router for compatibility, since a “real” 802.11n standard isn’t likey be be available for another year.

The Japanese Buffalo 802.11n USB adapter features a round base with three antennas that can be pointed in different directions to maximize reception. Feed a 10 foot satellite dish with this gizmo and leach signals from neighboring states.
