It’s Show Time. The
Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority estimates that 140,000 attendees and 2,700 exhibiting companies will pump about $230 million into the city economy, 40 percent more than the show generated in 2001.
The NY Times says the 2007 Consumer Electronics Show lays some 350,000 feet of extension cord, enough to run up and down the Empire State Building 140 times and enough aisle carpet to cover 600 average homes.
Bill Gates’ keynote was energizing (transcript). He announced several new offerings from Windows Vista (Vista demo) and Xbox 360, including home servers, HD movies on demand, IPTV using X Box and Microsoft in Fords.
Dozens of TechZones focus on specific products such as Bluetooth, Cellular, Satellite, GPS, Mobile Broadband, Mobile Television, VoIP, IPTV, HDTV, Wi-Fi, WiMAX, WiMedia, Wireless Distribution and ZigBee.
CES Events include Supersessions, Knowledge Tracks like Car Tech, Digital Living Rooms, Digital Imaging, Gaming and Retail Wireless, Exhibitor News, Awards, and a Flash Magazine.
There’s a ton of coverage from mainstream media and bloggers. You could wait a week for the Wireless Communications Association’s Expo in San Jose — but why bother?
