Opera has named Yahoo! as the exclusive provider of mobile search for mobile phones.

Opera will launch the new Yahoo! oneSearch on the Opera Mini (for cellphones) and Opera Mobile (for Symbian, Smartphones & PDAs), across more than 100 countries worldwide when it goes live globally later in Q1 2007.

Yahoo! oneSearch is a new mobile search service designed to give consumers instant answers on their phones. The service recognizes the intent of a search term and presents relevant content — not just a list of web links to PC sites — on the results page. Results are grouped by subject.

Yahoo! and Opera have also agreed to exclusively work together to explore bringing mobile advertising into the Opera Mobile browser.

Opera will be available for direct free-to-consumer downloads and through partnerships with content providers and device manufacturers.

Opera Mobile is Opera Software’s standards-compliant Web browser for advanced mobile phones. The browser uses Opera’s Small Screen Rendering technology to reformat Web pages for viewing on a small screen and allows users to navigate Web pages with intuitive vertical scrolling.

Yahoo!´s mobile services are available on mobile devices from major manufacturers and operators in more than 40 countries around the world.

Yahoo! offers a variety of mobile services to consumers including Yahoo! Go for Mobile 2.0, a revolutionary service that extends consumers Internet community and personalized content seamlessly to their mobile phone.

Yahoo!´s Mobile Web service gives consumers quick access to their favorite Yahoo! services including Yahoo! Search, Yahoo! Mail, Yahoo! News, Yahoo! Finance, Yahoo! Sports, Flickr, Yahoo! Go Local and more.

Yahoo seeks to outpace arch rival Google, using Yahoo’s mobile Web-search and related advertising products. Yahoo on Monday announced mobile phone makers Motorola, Nokia, Samsung and Research In Motion will include the new software on some of their phones.

Samsung, for example, said it would preload Yahoo search, electronic mail and instant messaging services on millions of its cell phones starting in the first half of 2007.
