WiMAX 802.16m: 1Gbps

The IEEE has started working on a new version of the 802.16 standard that could push data transfer speeds up to 1 Gbit/s while maintaining backwards compatibility with existing WiMax radios, reports Unstrung. No HSDPA for Intel

Intel said Wednesday it has cancelled plans to integrate an HSDPA module built by Nokia into it’s next-generation laptop, code-named “Santa Rosa.” Instead, it will rely solely on Wi-Fi technology to give mobile PC users wireless Internet access. U.S. Broadband: 50% Penetration

A new study from Parks Associates estimates U.S. residential broadband subscriptions will surpass 60 million households by year-end 2007, accounting for 55% of all U.S. households. Residential broadband surged 20% in 2006 to exceed 50 million U.S. households, according to the study.

Parks Associates also estimates there were networks in more than 22 million U.S. households.

Now that MediaFLO, Qualcomm’s mobile television solution, is
supported by AT&T/Cingular, as well as Verizon, it looked like Sprint would follow along.

Sify, an Indian internet provider, has launched a 5.8 GHz WiMAX solution using Proxim products.
