Starting today, the T-Mobile Dash will be able to upgrade its operating system to Windows Mobile 6, the first smartphone to do so.
T-Mobile is offering Dash owners a free desktop download to upgrade from Windows Mobile 5.0 to Windows Mobile 6.
Windows Mobile 6 allows you to view and edit Microsoft Office documents, find contacts faster and access Live for Windows Mobile.
According to T-Mobile, the OS upgrade will also offer improved Web, e-mail and messaging experiences. Upon performing the upgrade, Dash owners will be able to view e-mails in HTML format, complete with live links to Web sites, which the carrier claims will make messages look more like they would on a computer.
T-Mobile will be offering the Dash with Windows Mobile 6 already integrated in June. The Dash features GSM/EDGE, Wi-Fi and stereo Bluetooth, along with a microSD slot and a 1.3-megapixel camera.
RIM is getting heightened competition from smartphones. Its current 8 million mobile e-mail subscribers may now use Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 6.0.
The new BlackBerry Curve has a two-megapixel camera with photo-editing features. Due for release this spring in the US, it aims to build on the success of the BlackBerry Pearl, which did not carry a full “Qwerty” keyboard.
