The National Wireless Summit and Expo for Cities and Communities, a conference focused on the public safety and other community benefits of municipal wireless broadband, is scheduled for Sept. 10-11, 2007 on the campus of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

The two-day event is designed for government executives and administrators who are interested in deploying wireless broadband projects in their cities and communities, as well as private industry wireless broadband vendors involved in providing critical infrastructure to the public sector.

Jeff Cohen, a representative of the FCC and senior legal counsel in the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau, will discuss the FCC’s recent approval of rules regarding the auction of the 700Mhz spectrum. The ruling reserves a portion of the spectrum to promote a national public safety wireless network and facilitate the availability of new and innovative wireless broadband services for consumers.

Other session topics include “The State of Deployment of Municipal Wireless Networks Globally,” “Public Safety and Government Efficiency with Wireless Broadband,” “Public Safety Applications that Integrate to the Wireless Network,” “Government Assistance and Outreach from Federal and State Public Sectors,” among others.

Municipal representatives presenting include Randi Levin, Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the City of Los Angeles, Stephen Ferguson, CIO of the City of Sacramento, Robert LeGrande, Deputy CIO for the City of Washington D.C., and Brian Moura, board member of Wireless Silicon Valley and assistant city manager for the City of San Carlos.

The conference was organized by Smart Capitol Venture, a technology consulting organization. SCV Network President John Ramos has served in the public sector in three federal departments and twice with the County of Marin (San Rafael, CA).

MuniWireless Silicon Valley 2007, a competing conference, will be held October 21-23, 2007 at the Santa Clara Marriott in California.

The WiMAX World Conference & Expo held September 25-27, 2007 at the McCormick Center in Chicago, Illinois, is expected to be the largest WiMAX-focused event ever held.

Now in its fourth year, WiMAX World USA has already registered over 1,700 attendees, and expect that over 6,000 WiMAX ecosystem players, including operators, service providers, solution providers, end users, industry analysts and media will converge at this event in September. The three-day WiMAX World conference program features 230 exhibitors and sponsors with participation by virtually all major WiMAX players, including more than 35 WiMAX operators and over 180 speakers.

This year’s event will focus on three key WiMAX themes: Mobility, the WiMAX Ecosystem and Digital Cities.
