PePWave an innovator of home Wi-Fi repeaters used by many municipal wireless networks, today announced the launch of PePWave Mobility, a product that provides connectivity for vehicles on the move.
It’s designed for public safety, transit authorities, and city governments that need a mobile WiFi connection. PePWave’s new Mobility solution is said to be a cost effective platform, allowing for a mobile workforce to utilize public Wi-Fi access and provide real-time information systems. It comes in 100mW, 200mW and 400 mW models and starts at $495.
The PePWave Mobility product is capable of roaming between access points in precise time, which avoids disruptive gaps in Wi-Fi signal strength on a fast moving vehicle. It maintains Wi-Fi network continuity without re-configuration, and ensures adequate bandwidth and consistency for multimedia content over Wi-Fi networks.
“The demand for fast mobile connectivity is undeniable, however few solutions today are cost effective enough to make sense,” said Alex Chan, Managing Director at PePWave. “We have leveraged our experience in carrier Wi-Fi products to create a mobile platform that performs great and is also affordable.”
With its advanced roaming algorithms, the new PePWave Mobility is said to be able to provide seamless multimedia transmission in motion at speeds of up to 75 miles/hour, providing broadband access to rail and bus transportation, cost/effectively.
Paired with a Wi-Fi Access Point such as the PePWave PolePoint, the Mobility will allow passengers to connect to a fast and reliable Wi-Fi connection. As with all PePWave models, PePWave Mobility can be remotely managed through PePWave Central Management System – an integrated suite of administration tools utilized by service providers to manage large-scale inventory and deployment of PePWave devices.
PePWave Mobility offers the same flexibility in customization and co-branding options under PePWave’s Service Provider Program.
Municipal wireless operators, such as Earthlink and MetroFi, encourage residential users to purchase devices like PepWave to provide stronger, more reliable Wi-Fi reception, indoors. Headquartered in Hong Kong, PePWave’s products have been deployed by service providers, public safety agencies, city governments and enterprise customers.
