Atheros says its single-chip AR6001GL Radio-on-a-Chip was chosen to provide 802.11g connectivity in the Eye-Fi’s wireless SD memory card. The oft delayed and frequently hyped Eye-Fi Card may debut this fall. It allegedly enables wireless instant photo sharing by integrating Wi-Fi with an SD memory card.
The Eye-Fi Card can send photographs directly from digital cameras to home computers and online photo and social networking sites. The Eye-Fi Card, which also stores photos like a conventional SD memory card, is expected to sell for about $100.
Atheros’ single-chip AR6001GL 802.11g provided the low-power consumption and small size required. The chip includes Automatic Power Save Delivery (APSD) and Atheros’ proprietary, low-power sleep mode, delivers extended battery life.
All members of the ROCm family offer full-speed, hardware-based security which is compliant with the WPA, WPA2 and 802.11i standards. The solutions also come with full driver support for Windows Mobile CE 6.0 and Linux-based designs.
