Mobile Satellite Ventures (MSV) commended the work of the United States delegation to the recently concluded 2007 World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC) held in Geneva, Switzerland:

By calling attention to the suitability of key commercial MSS spectrum bands for integrated systems – including the 1.5/1.6 GHz L-Band — the ITU has expanded opportunities for global implementation of this valuable service,” said CEO Alexander Good.
MSV is developing a new hybrid satellite-terrestrial communications network, based on MSV’s patented ancillary terrestrial component (ATC) technology (pdf), which are terrestrial repeaters, not unlike those used by Sirius Satellite radio (except two-way).
The company expects that its next-generation network will provide seamless, transparent and ubiquitous wireless coverage of the United States and Canada to conventional handsets. MSV is majority owned and controlled by SkyTerra Communications.
Boardchairman of ICO, Craig McCaw, would like to use ICO’s MSS frequencies to carry mobile television as an adjunct to Clearwire’s Mobile WiMAX.
ICO plans to integrate its Mobile Interactive Media (MIM) suite of services with Clearwire’s broadband network. “Our next generation wireless personal broadband networks are built to deliver data, voice and video over a single network,” said Scott Richardson, chief strategy officer for Clearwire.
Business Week reports that representatives of TerreStar, Frontline, and Mobile Satellite Ventures have all met with FCC officials in recent weeks with an eye to either participating in the 700mhz auction or joining forces with a winner. Any one could become a wireless wholesaler that leases its network to mobile-phone service providers, technology companies or government agencies.
In other satellite news, the Sweden’s SIRIUS 4 communications satellite, designed and built by Lockheed Martin for SES SIRIUS, an SES company, was successfully launched today from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Not to be confused with Sirius Satellite radio, the spacecraft will be located at orbital location 5 degrees East and is expected to provide provide distribution of direct-to-home broadcast and interactive services across Scandinavia, Europe and Africa.
SIRIUS 4 features 46 active Ku-band high-power transponders in the BSS and FSS frequency band. In addition, it is equipped with an active Ka-band transponder for interactive applications in the Nordic and Baltic regions, as well as a sub-Sahara African beam to complement existing coverage of Africa, using six additional active Ku-band FSS transponders.
