Pakistan Launches Nationwide WiMAX

Motorola today announced a contract with Wateen Telecom-Pakistan for the supply of 198,000 end-user WiMAX customer premises equipment (CPE) devices for both indoor and outdoor use. Motorola WiMAX 802.16e CPEs will provide wireless broadband in one of the fastest developing telecoms markets.

Twenty two towns in rural Vermont are planning a regional fiber-optic network. It could be ready by the end of 2009, reports MuniWireless.

The FCC’s 700 MHz auction is on. RCR News says the first round today resulted in 1,849 bids, totaling more than $2.4 billion. A second round of bidding will be held today, scheduled to go from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. EST.
