Spotigo WiFi-based Positioning teamed with Spotigo’s WiFi SmartClient, is said to combine four modules that can be licensed independently for municipal networks.

  1. The Hotspot Finder Module
A directory for public WiFi access. Currently more than 250.000 hotspots in more than 150 countries are listed. Including this module to the users’ WiFi software, they are enabled to find the next access point without having to be online.
  2. The WiFi Connection Manager Module
This component allows scanning for and fully automatic login to public or private hotspots. The user can connect with one click or even fully automatically.
  3. The Content Push Module
Companies can push any content (advertising, etc.) to their customers - in any format: text, pictures, multimedia, etc.
  4. The Location Finder Modulex
Any WiFi-enabled device (laptop, smartphone, PDA, WiFi-tagged items, etc.) can be located by WiFi signal patterns - with an accuracy of up to 1 meter. Unlike GPS, Spotigo’s WiFi-based positioning works even indoors. This module is the basis for Location Based Services (LBS) and Location Based Advertising (LBA).

Meanwhile, a San Francisco start-up is launching the first mobile video ads for the iPhone. Ad Infuse is serving up ads from Esurance and the Partnership for a Drug Free America.

CBS Mobile unit is teaming up with the social-networking service Loopt, which allows its subscribers to track participating friends and family on their mobile phones.

The ads will appear on two Web sites that are tailored for mobile devices, CBS Mobile News and CBS Mobile Sports. Loopt’s GPS-based technology can deliver personalized mobile ads from the likes of Starbucks or Barnes & Noble.

Available on some Sprint Nextel and Boost Mobile handsets, Loopt’s service can also pinpoint a subscriber’s location; then users can broadcast that location information to friends or family for $2.99 a month.
