New Rukus Wireless Products

Ruckus Wireless today introduced an extensive range of products for commercial and residential businesses. They use Ruckus’ Smart Wi-Fi system that beams signals to clients. For hotspot applications, Ruckus is augmenting its ZoneFlex AP offerings with two new products: the MediaFlex 2835 ($259) and ZoneFlex 7942 ($699) .

Now your houseplants can Twitter, too.

When your plant needs water, it will post to let you know, and send its thanks “when you show it love”.

Broadband Bellheads?

A new report from Connected Nation (pdf) predicts that the current legislation promoting broadband development in the U.S. could provide an economic stimulus of as much as $134 billion annually.
The report was an obvious pitch for Congress to get behind broadband, says MuniWireless. Connected Nation stresses more DSL and fiber.

Motorola has named a new chief financial officer, reports RCR News. Paul Liska, a former Sears, Roebuck and Co. CFO, will take over March 1 for Tom Meredith, a Motorola board member who was named interim CFO last March.

The Connected Bus

San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency officials, Mayor Gavin Newsom and Cisco Systems unveiled a yearlong pilot program, called the Connected Bus (pdf), which is a single bus outfitted with wireless Internet capabilities.
The bus will begin running next week and will be moved around to different lines throughout the year, transit officials said.

The BBC has publicly apologised for a report in their documentary series Panorama in which they broadcast misleading facts on the risks of Wi-Fi broadband, reports Broadband Genie.

T-Mobile Expands Hotspot@Home

T-Mobile has officially unveiled its “HotSpot @Home Talk Forever Home Phone” plan, now on trial in Seattle and Dallas. It uses a dual mode cellphone that hands off to WiFi at home. Calls transition from your cellphone to the hotspot for unlimited calling.
