The D-Link Media Router (DIR-855) is the latest “802.11n” addition to D-Link’s Xtreme N product family. The DIR-855 supports 802.11n with dualband (2.4GHz & 5GHz) operation at the same time.
This, says D-Link, allows you to check e-mail and browse the Internet using the 2.4GHz band while simultaneously streaming High-Definition (HD) movies and other media on the 5GHz band. Two independent wireless signals, using two independent bandwidths, deliver the goods.
D-Link’s Intelligent QoS Prioritization Technology analyzes wired and wireless traffic, then separates them into multiple data streams. These streams are then categorized by sensitivity to delay, so applications like VoIP, Video Streaming, and Online Gaming are given priority over Web browsing.
Of course to take advantage of this technology you’ll need either a laptop equipped with Intel’s 4965AGN chipset or the Linksys companion adaptor (the DWA-160).
It features three dual external antennas and an OLED network activity display on the top along with Dual Active Firewall (SPI, NAT), backwards compatibility with 802.11a/g. The D-855 goes on sale in May with an RRP of £169.99 ($337).
