Research and Markets has announced their “4Q07 WLAN Market Share Report”.

According to Research and Markets, in 4Q07, worldwide Wi-Fi revenue increased by 6% Year-over-Year (YoY), from $1.0 billion in 4Q06. Total worldwide shipments exceeded 16 million.

Draft-n shipments during 4Q07 continued to show the strongest growth. Draft-n access points showed a QoQ growth of 30% and a YoY growth of 340%.

Typically, 4Q is a slow quarter for enterprise and 4Q07 was no exception. Both shipments of multi-mode APs and network interface cards (NIC) decreased. Fueled by the growth of draft-n and the continued strong shipments of 802.11g, NICs increased for the second straight quarter during 4Q07.

For the first time since they have started tracking WLAN market share NETGEAR led in overall Wi-Fi unit shipments taking the lead away from Linksys during 4Q07.

This report examines the WLAN market for 4Q07. Market shares for enterprise and SOHO/consumer vendors are provided, based on unit shipments and manufacturers’ revenue for the quarter. The data is segmented by air standard and equipment form factor.
