Alcatel-Lucent announced this week that it has been awarded a contract by Entel S.A., the leading telecommunications operator in Bolivia, to deploy the first commercial Mobile WiMAX network in Bolivia.
The network will support VoIP, broadband access, video and other data services for Entel customers, accommodating both stationary and nomadic applications. Entel plans to launch commercial service of the network by the end of this quarter.
Alcatel-Lucent will provide its end-to-end WiMAX solution, including base stations, wireless access controllers, software and application platforms. It also will provide design and planning for end-to-end network integration services, including radio network planning, installation and commissioning, project management and support services for Entel’s network.
In a separate announcement, Alcatel-Lucent announced it has been selected by Craig Wireless to build a Mobile WiMAX network in Palm Springs, California. This is the first commercial deployment of Alcatel-Lucent’s WiMAX technology in North America. Alcatel-Lucent will provide network design, planning, installation and optimization for end-to-end integration of the network, which will operate in the 2.5 gigahertz (GHz) spectrum band.
