Gigaom reports that Dubai port authorities have impounded two ships, MV Hounslow and MT Ann, believed to be responsible for damage to undersea cables that saw India lose half of its Internet capacity earlier this year, according to India’s Hindu News.
“The matter has been brought to the notice of appropriate authorities which are taking necessary action,” an official said.
In February, internet services across India were disrupted for two weeks because of cuts in undersea cable network of Flag Telecom, a subsidiary of India’s Reliance Globalcom, off the northern coast of Egypt and UAE.
