Intel has set up a regional WiMAX office in Taiwan and plans to make equity investment in WiMAX-related firms in Taiwan, says Digitimes.

Intel executive vice president Sean Maloney will officially announce the establishment of a regional WiMAX office in Taiwan at the end of April, and Intel will also reveal details of its WiMAX investment plans in Taiwan during Computex 2008 to be held from June 3-7 in Taipei, the paper indicated.

Intel decided to implement its commitment, based on a MOU it signed with the Taiwan government in 2005, to help foster the development of the WiMAX industry in Taiwan following a recent visit to Intel by Ho Mei-yueh, chairman of Taiwan’s Council for Economic Planning and Development (CEPD) and JT Wang, chairman of Acer, the Chinese-language Commercial Times reported.
