TapRoot Systems today announced that it is providing free trial versions of its WalkingHotSpot solution to Wi-Fi enabled smartphone users (pdf).

WalkingHotSpot transforms a Wi-Fi enabled smartphone into a hotspot providing access to the Internet. The free trial version, for smartphones using the Symbian S60 and Windows Mobile 6 Professional, can be downloaded at www.WalkingHotSpot.com. The company says support for other major mobile operating systems is coming soon.

WalkingHotSpot transforms 3G/Wi-Fi smartphones into hotspots.

It enables multiple client devices (laptops, MP3 players, gaming devices, etc.) to connect to the Internet anywhere there is mobile network coverage. The application is said to be designed to be power-efficient, robust and end-user friendly. It uses the phone’s EVDO/HSPA data network for backhaul.

A carrier version of WalkingHotSpot supports multiple devices simultaneously through secure connections. It is commercially available for immediate implementation in carriers’ networks.
