Okay it’s not about wireless — yet — but Ted Schilowitz, leader of the Rebellion for Red Digital Cinema, talks to Camcorder info about their new handheld 3K Red Scarlet, which appears to be a done deal.
Red Scarlet features a 8x zoom with a 2/3″ CMOS sensor that records up to 100Mbs a second. Ted likens the battle between “regular” 2K HD camcorders versus 3K and 4k Red cameras to cell phone cameras versus SLRs. The $3000 Red Scarlet camcorder promises to blow away any HD video available on broadcast, satellite and cable.
In other news, Filmmaker Spike Lee has linked up with Nokia to direct a movie made with cell phone footage from everyday people in what he calls the democratization of film (video promo clip).
The film by Nokia Productions will consist of three acts. An “assignment” for each act will be announced online and people will then have four weeks to produce their submission.
“You are seeing first hand the democratization of film,” Lee said in a statement on Thursday. “Aspiring filmmakers no longer have to go to film school to make great work. With a simple mobile phone, almost anyone can now become a filmmaker.”
Meanwhile, CBS News has quietly launched CBS imobile, a citizen journalism site, where users can upload photos and videos directly from their mobile phone, for everyone to see.
