MRV Communications, a provider of WDM and optical transport, metro Ethernet, and fiber optic components, today announced the TereScope TS-10GE, the industry’s first wireless 10-Gigabit Ethernet system.

The system will make its public debut at Interop, which runs from April 27 – May 2 in Las Vegas. The system has already been named a “Best of Interop” Finalist in the Wireless and Mobility category.

The line-of-sight TereScope extends backbone networks between multiple buildings without a need for rights-of-way or a fiber-optic cable plant using Free-Space Optics.

The patented TereScope TS-10GE has a range of up to 850 meters in clear weather. It connects to the LAN using a XFP interface with physical-layer and wavelength flexibility and distances up to 10 kilometers. The TereScope TS-10GE can be connected to an MRV 100Mb RF solution for back up in the event of heavy fog.

“The TereScope TS-10GE complements MRV’s OptiSwitch 930, a 10-Gigabit Ethernet device, allowing us to give carriers a full complement of access products at 10-Gigabit speeds,” said Noam Lotan, president and CEO of MRV Communications.

The 10GE TereScope TS-10GE will be available in the second half of 2008 with a list price of $45,000.
