PhoneNews says Sprint is internally testing the HTC Hero and may release it at the end of the year. They also say Sprint is testing a Samsung device running Android with built-in CDMA/WiMax connectivity.

Samsung’s SWD-M100 Mondi uses a fast, Cortex-core processor, Windows Mobile 6.5 and the new Opera Mobile 9.7 browser and packs WiMAX and CDMA/EV-DO radios.

Like the T-Mobile G1 and HTC Magic, the Android-powered HTC Hero has a curve at the bottom, but it’s thinner and features a 3.2-inch HVGA touch screen with an antifingerprint screen coating.

Sprint has previously confirmed plans to release a tri-mode CDMA/WiMax device between this year and 2010.
