While Dow Jones follows through with plans to convert some of its iPhone and BlackBerry free app users to paid subscribers, CNN is jumping right into the premium market, says Paid Content, with a $2 application for the iPhone. It costs nothing to use, explains Wired, and makes it easier for citizen journalists to file their own video news reports from the field.
CNN is charging a one-time $2 fee for the CNN iPhone app. The CNN app is a mix of constantly updated headlines, sharing, alerts and live streaming, reports Paid Content.
Besides text, photos and news that other mobile apps usually deliver, the CNN iPhone app steals the spotlight with live video streaming for breaking news and on-demand video of recent newscasts, says PC World.
Users can follow a story or a topic with updates pushed to the device. Social media sharing is integrated into the CNN app for iPhone so you can share stories you enjoyed on Twitter, Facebook, e-mail, or SMS.
The approach differs considerably from that of TW sibling Time, which is going ad-only for iPhone news apps from CNNMoney, Time and Sports Illustrated, and premium for non-news apps like People Celebrity Tracker, $1.99, and SI Swimsuit, $2.99.
