Clearwire, in conjunction with Comcast and Sprint, issued two news releases this afternoon outlining the timing for the remainder of the companies’ 4G market launch schedule for 2009:
Clearwire, Comcast and Sprint will each launch commercial 4G service in Philadelphia in the next several weeks with official launch events to follow. In November, Clearwire, Comcast and Sprint will begin sales in Chicago. All three providers will begin selling in Seattle/Tacoma area in early December.
- Clearwire and Sprint will each launch 4G service in Charlotte, Greensboro and Raleigh, North Carolina; Austin, Dallas/Fort Worth and San Antonio, Texas in November. Service will be available from both companies in Honolulu and Maui, Hawaii in early December.
Comcast’s 4G service is branded Comcast High-Speed 2go and sold as part of a bundle with their cable modem. Sprint’s 4G service includes a USB 3G/4G dual mode modem that switches to 3G data when WiMAX service is not available.
Clear is targeting over 40 million total covered POPs for 2009; in places such as: Atlanta and Milledgeville, GA; Baltimore; Boise; Chicago; Las Vegas; Philadelphia; Charlotte, Raleigh, and Greensboro, NC; Honolulu and Maui, HI; Seattle and Bellingham, Wash; Portland and Salem, Ore; and Dallas/Ft. Worth, San Antonio, Austin, Abilene, Amarillo, Corpus Christi, Killeen/Temple, Lubbock, Midland/Odessa, Waco and Wichita Falls, Texas.




Have any of these Clearwire WiMAX networks stated that this is a Mobile Service. Or is it really a Fixed and Portable service>
How effective has the 2.5Ghz spectrum been in heavy Canopied markets?? Do we have any tests that have tested foliage and strucutre penetration yet??
