Tranzeo Wireless, a manufacturer of wireless broadband and WiMAX communication systems, has received a US$5.4M purchase order from Aperto Networks to deliver Aperto-branded WiMAX subscriber units.

Tranzeo manufactures the PacketMAX subscriber unit product line exclusively for Aperto, operating in the 3GHz and license-free 5GHz bands including the emerging lightly-licensed 3.65GHz band.

Tranzeo’s license-free 3.65GHz and 5.8GHz systems (pdf) include a low-cost pico Base Station, subscriber units, and a Management System. Aperto’s PacketMAX is available in both 802.16d and 802.16e variants. The addition of the Aperto purchase order increases Tranzeo’s current backlog of all purchase orders for 2009 and 2010 to US$7.4M.

Washington State-based PocketiNet Communications recently announced the selection of Aperto Networks for its region-wide WiMAX wireless broadband network in Southeast Washington and will use Tranzeo’s subscriber units.

PocketiNet is a regional Internet Service Provider delivering fixed WiMAX service in 14 communities throughout Eastern Washington and Northeast Oregon. PocketiNet selected fixed WiMAX because it supports large coverage from a single cell.

Other companies offering license-free 900 MHz and 5.8 GHz WiMAX, as well as the lightly licensed 3.65 GHz WiMAX include Alvarion, with its BreezeACCESS VL product family, and Proxim with its Tsunami MP.16 and Tsunami MP.11 line as well as Redline and Solectek.

The federal government will soon start handing out the first $4 billion in stimulus funds for broadband Internet connections. Broadband.gov received $28 billion in requests.

An online searchable database listing broadband applications for stimulus funds is now open to the public. It was created by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and Rural Utilities Services (RUS) for their Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP) and Broadband Initiatives Program (BIP), respectively.

The TIPS and TAPS purchasing cooperatives have joined together government entities, in multiple states, to increase their buying power in acquiring products and services.
