Immersive Media, a 360-degree, interactive video company, today announced the first live, streaming 360 degree video website that lets viewers look around in 360 degrees.

MuchMusic, Canada’s leading network for music videos and live performances, is using the new IM LIVE to stream live video daily from its MuchOnDemand studio to fans at muchmusic.com to complement on-air programming.

Daily, interactive, online broadcasts are available at 5pm ET daily at the MuchOnDemand site. The patented IM LIVE technology places online audiences in the middle of a live event and gives them full control over their viewing experience. Each viewer can independently control their point of view, looking sideways, up or down, or all around, zooming in or out of the action (demos).

The IM LIVE solution, available now, is a turnkey system that enables broadcasters, advertisers and interactive marketers to deliver live, interactive, 360-degree video. It is comprised of Immersive Media’s Dodeca 2360 Camera and a streaming encoding server that delivers real-time video to users on the web. They use Boulder Imaging, a pioneer in high performance digital video recorder technologies for video recording and data integration. Immersive Media’s Dodeca 2360 camera system (pdf) has 11 lenses that capture 360° video from every direction simultaneously, at more than 100 million pixels per second.

Initially Immersive Media supplied “Streetviews” for Google but lost the contract. Google selected other technology for its on-going investment in immersive geo-media.

Other immersive video solutions include iMove, which utilizes 6 cameras on its hub. Their inView Rapid Deployable Surveillance system can be mounted on lightweight poles with intrusion sensors and wireless alarm communication.

The Earthmine MARS Collection System gathers detailed and accurate 3D geospatial data.
