Today Broadcom announced it has added support for the recently adopted Bluetooth v3.0 + HS (High Speed) specification broadly across its entire Bluetooth and InConcert combo chip and modules.
Bluetooth 3.0 enhances the capabilities of this short range wireless technology in smartphones, PCs, netbooks and other devices by enabling file transfers of up to 24 Mbps, utilizing an available 802.11n WLAN radio
Several of Broadcom’s combo chip solutions have achieved Bluetooth v3.0 qualification including the BCM2075, combining Bluetooth, GPS and FM. This widespread upgrade will help drive applications of the technology beyond headsets and into devices such as the remote control. The Samsung GT-S8500 is the first Bluetooth 3.0 phone with a touchscreen 3.1-inch OLED sporting a TouchWIZ UI and quad-band GSM/EDGE radios.
Broadcom says it is focused on the integration and coexistence ensuring these technologies work together, via developments such as its recently announced InConcert Maestro technology.
Many wireless chip manufacturers, including Atheros, Broadcom, CSR, and Marvell are expected to deliver silicon solutions of 24 Mbps Bluetooth V3.0 this year.
