Google’s rumored slate project, would offer a completely open platform — an approach that runs counter to Apple’s closed App Store model, says the NY Times.
There’s a difference of opinion about which operating system the slate will use. The slate-like computer will run Android, reports Wired, from an anonymous source. Another person who has been briefed on the Google slate says it will likely come with Google’s Chrome Web browser, reports the NY Times.
Google has reportedly been working with publishers to develop content.
What is certain is that a slew of new tablets are coming this summer, and many of them are expected to be powered by Android. Motorola, Acer, HTC, Dell and Samsung, have announced plans to make Android-based phones or other mobile products. AndroLib.com estimates that 9,000 new Android apps were released in March alone.
