Barnes & Noble announced today a self-publishing portal that will open this summer. The world’s largest bookseller says that their PubIt! service will give authors the ability to upload and sell content through B&N’s website and eBookstore.
Details of the profit split with authors will be announced “in the coming weeks.” Barnes & Noble, like Amazon, won’t limit distribution to their own e-reader, the Nook. Published content will be available on most e-readers, tablets or PCs, and they will be able to make purchases.
Barnes and Noble’s ebook store (and the $260 Nook), will compete with Borders ebook store (and their $150 Kobos E-reader), Apple’s ebook store (and their $500 iPad), Amazon’s ebook store (and their $260 Kindle), and Google’s ebook store (and their $200 Android tablets and phones).
