Clearwire today announced two new personal Wi-Fi/4G hot spots and their first Mac-compatible dual-mode mobile USB dongle. The devices are available with Clear’s truly unlimited WiMAX data plans that generally costs $40/month – without a contract.
The hot spots, the Clear Spot 4G and Clear Spot 4G+ offer integrated modems and batteries, similar to Verizon’s popular MiFi mobile router. The dual-mode 4G+ mobile USB dongle provides 4G/3G service to Mac users, for the first time.
CLEAR Spot 4G: A personal mobile hotspot allowing users to share their WiMAX connection with up to eight Wi-Fi-enabled devices including laptops, smartphones, and portable gaming devices.
It’s manufactured by InfoMark, a South Korean company, and will be available for purchase at $99.99 or for a $4.99 monthly lease. It will available nationwide at CLEAR stores and authorized dealers in July.
CLEAR Spot 4G+: Automatically switches from 4G to Sprint’s 3G nationwide network outside the 4G coverage area. It can share the connection with up to five Wi-Fi-enabled devices. The CLEAR Spot 4G+, manufactured by Sierra Wireless, is a rebadged Sprint Overdrive device. It will be available to purchase for $224.99 or to lease for $5.99 per month. It can be preordered today and will be available nationwide at CLEAR stores and authorized dealers in July.
- CLEAR 4G+ Mobile USB (Series S): A dongle that works on both Macs and PCs. It can be purchased for $114.99 or leased monthly for $5.99. It’s also compatible with Windows based laptops. It is available today at and in stores in Atlanta, Dallas, Hawaii, Harrisburg, Lancaster, Reading and York, PA. The CLEAR 4G+ Mobile USB will be available in all 4G markets beginning July 1st.
Unlike other cellular data plans that cap data usage, CLEAR offers true unlimited 4G usage plans — with no long-term service contracts. In most markets unlimited 4G coverage from CLEAR starts at $30/month for the home while unlimited mobile plans start at $40/month.
Bundled services such as Home and On-The-Go and Home and Voice plans start at $55 per month. CLEAR says they currently serve approximately 51 million people. A detailed map of service availability can be found at clear.com/coverage.
