Verizon’s Droid X, currently Verizon Wireless’s flagship Android device, shipped with the older Android 2.1 OS, and is expected to receive the Android 2.2 update (Froyo) toward the end of July. Now it appears that Droid 2, coming in late August, is set to be the first phone to ship with highly anticipated next-gen Android mobile operating system 2.2 Froyo pre-installed.

The 1 Mhz Droid 2 will have Android version 2.2 when it lands on Verizon’s shelves as soon as August 12th, says Phandroid.

Motorola’s Droid 2 smartphone, the successor to the original Droid, is expected to suppliment its older sibling, the Motorola Droid X, which is due to receive the Android 2.2 update about the same time.
