HP’s new Mobile Access Solution is talking up 900 Mbps speeds using 802.11n certified, three-spatial-stream MIMO technology. HP says it enhances coverage with beam-forming technology and can support up to 50 percent more mobile devices than existing technology. The enterprise acccess points deliver up to 450Mb/s per radio on the 460 and 466 models that feature 3×3 MIMO.
The HP Mobile Access Solution features:
- Increased performance with the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED, dual 802.11n radio technology.
- Simplified management through a single interface for wired and wireless environments.
- Reduced complexity with a single, comprehensive security solution .
- Lower total cost of ownership and improved price and performance.
Built around HP’s Converged Infrastructure strategy, the 802.11n solution uses both the 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz band. The new line includes three different access points, the 430, 460 and 466; MSM 5.5 mobility controller software; and Mobility Manager 3.10 network management software and the E-series MultiService Controller (pdf)
The dual radio, two-spatial-stream MSM430 has a U.S. list price of $699 while the dual radio, three-spatial-stream MSM460 and MSM466 have a U.S. list price of $999.
HP says it’s the industry’s first access point with three data streams per wireless radio, but it’s not. The Meraki MR24 introduced triple-stream, 802.11n access point last month. It also features 900 Mb/sec speeds and features a built in Network Access Control for one-click network security and cloud controlled management, rather than local hardware.
Meraki’s MR24 is available now for $1199. It’s also available via Meraki’s innovative Networking as a Service pricing, which eliminates up front capital costs and long-term commitments, starting at $38/month.
According to Dell’Oro Group, overall wireless LAN (WLAN) market revenues are expected to surpass $7 billion by 2014; 2010 revenues were up 23 percent year-over-year to $2.1 billion. During the third quarter of 2010, both HP and arch-rival Cisco grew their enterprise revenues by over 20 percent. The enterprise Wireless LAN Market is forecast to grow more than 75 percent by 2015
