The global advertising market was $503 billion last year, growing over 10%, according to Nielsen. The USA, the world’s largest advertising market, is growing again after ad expenditures dropped nine percent in 2009.

eMarketer predicts major media ad spending in the United States will grow significantly in the next few years. Predictably, most of the growth will be on the internet.

Advertising Online Surpassed Newspapers in 2010.

Online advertising spending is expected to eclipse print spending in 2013, when combined US print ad revenues at newspapers and magazines drops to $32.8 billion—compared to $36 billion in US online ad revenues.

Between 2009 and 2015, newspapers’ share of total major media ad spending will fall from 16.9% to 11.4%, the greatest loss in share of any medium.

Magazines won’t be doing much better. For every step ahead with online ad revenue, they’ll take two steps back in lost print revenue.

Mobile Ad Spending will reach $1.1 Billion in 2011 and total some $2.5 Billion in 2014. AccuStream Research says advertisers spent $794 million on mobile campaigns in 2010. Hyper-targeted advertising is what sets the mobile platform apart from rival marketing channels.

An August 2010 Nielsen survey found that iPad owners are considerably more receptive to ads than other mobile device owners.

Meanwhile, Gartner report claims Android will own 49% of Smartphone Market by end of 2012.

Conclusion? Mobile ads on iPads and Android smartphones are the future.
