The Society for Information Display, today announced its 2011 Display of the Year Awards at its annual conference. The six products were chosen — two each for Displays, Display Components and Display Applications.

  • iPhone 4 Retina Display. Packing four times the number of pixels into the same 3.5-in. dia. screen found on earlier iPhone models, the 640×960-pixel Retina display set a new benchmark for mobile display resolution, low power consumption and image quality.
  • Samsung On-cell Touch AMOLED. Unlike prior-generation touch-capable mobile displays, the OCTA display integrates the touch sensor onto the display itself, rather than fabricating the sensor on a separate glass substrate
  • Apple iPad. The iPad LCD’s Mobile IPS technology combines with its innovative Multi-Touch user interface and unique system design
  • Samsung Galaxy S Smartphones. A brilliant 4-inch display powered by Samsung’s Super AMOLED touch-screen technology, which yields thinner displays
  • E Ink Triton Color ePaper. Delivers the same great paper-like reading experience, but now with color.
  • ITRI Flexible Substrate for Displays. Highly suitable for the fabrication of flexible displays. The ITRI flexible substrate can be manufactured with either batch-type or roll-to-roll (R2R) processes.

Augmented Reality is more than marketing hype, it´s actually an interface revolution, says Metaio,

Pointing a camera equipped mobile device towards an object and getting instant, context sensitive information about it, will change how we access, understand and enjoy digital information in the future.

Need to know how to set up and connect a digital receiver to your TV? Just point your tablet at the device and see a step-by-step virtual guide displayed on top of it.

Metaio’s software platform Unifeye allows 3D-animations to be integrated seamlessly into live-video streams from the user’s real environment.
